Kelly Ficklin, Director
Scotland County Schools is dedicated to the education of our students, but we are also dedicated to the education of our teachers because we know that there is a direct correlation between teacher improvement and increased student achievement. An opportunity has been provided for math, science, and technology teachers to further their education and to become stronger teachers. The Math Science Partnership Project is designed to encourage and help teachers earn masters’ degrees or clear licensure requirements, as it creates better informed, more skilled, and more effective teachers in the math, science, and technology classrooms.
MSP is in its third and final year. We currently have thirty participants ranging from elementary, middle, and high school math, science, technology, and EC teachers. We celebrate the fact that fourteen of these teachers will complete their master’s degree by the completion of this grant. This summer we hosted our second summer science institute and had fourteen participants take part in this excellent opportunity for graduate credit at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in the area of Earth Science.
As the director I look forward to the 2007-2008 Academic year as I assist and coach these great teachers in their endeavors to further their education through the Math Science Partnership Project.
