Scotland County is nestled on the border of North and South Carolina, just 100 miles from sparkling, sandy beaches to the east and a few hours from the magnificent mountains to the west. Whether it is sunning and surfing you like, or hiking cool mountain trails in the summer and skiing in the winter, Scotland County's location is easily accessible to both. South Carolina's fast growing Myrtle Beach area offers sparkling beaches, a multitude of theaters featuring well-known performers, and a myriad of shopping opportunities. The Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway draw thousands of visitors annually.
The county's central location puts you within a couple of hours of Charlotte, the state's largest city, as well as Raleigh, its capital. Interstate 95 is just minutes away and four U.S. highways intersect the county.
According to recent census figures, 33,754 residents live in Scotland County, with 16,643 living in Laurinburg, the county seat. Other townships include East Laurinburg, Gibson, Laurel Hill and Wagram.

The Scotland County School System is home to ten elementary schools serving students grades Pre-K through five: Covington Street, I. Ellis Johnson, Laurel Hill, North Laurinburg, Pate Gardner, Scotland Accelerated Academy, Shaw, South Scotland, Wagram and Washington Park; three middle schools serving students grades six through eight: Carver, Spring Hill and Sycamore Lane; one early college high school that allows students to attain a high school diploma and an associate’s degree in five years; and five smaller learning communities and a ninth grade academy on the campus of Scotland High School.
