Maintenance Department

Maintenance Dept.
MISSION STATEMENT: Employees of the Scotland County Schools Plant Operations and Maintenance Department will strive to operate and maintain the facilities occupied by the faculty, staff and students in Scotland County Schools in a manner that effectively assures a safe, clean, sanitary, attractive and efficient educational environment.

The plant operations and maintenance program provides personnel, equipment and supplies to maintain facilities in a safe, sanitary, attractive and efficient condition. In order to protect the investment of public funds, it is vital that an effective plant operations and maintenance program be followed.

The employees in the maintenance department recognize the importance of the plant operations and maintenance program and they take their responsibility seriously. An efficient and smooth working facility contributes to the success of the educational process and, in many instances, the appearance and operation of a school and its grounds may be a factor in the formation of public attitudes toward the success of the school system.

Principals, Assistant Principals, Directors, and Central Office Administrators usually request maintenance services. Work orders can be requested and generated on line at www.myschoolbuilding.com. The maintenance director prioritizes the requested services and assigns work orders to the maintenance staff according to the guide for requesting maintenance services.

Principals manage the custodial operations and housekeeping services at the schools. Custodians are employees of the school at which they work and its administrator and he/she (or his/her designee) directly supervises them. The CUSTODIAN OPERATIONS HANDBOOK developed by the maintenance director is provided to assist school administrators in their efforts to organize the custodial staff at each school sonsistent with custodial activities and performance expectations at other schools and to serve as a reference for custodians and their supervisors.

A custodial warehouse clerk and vendors provide custodial support services and custodial training. Custodial supplies and materials are warehoused at the maintenance facility on McFarland Road. Schools are allotted funds annually for custodial supplies, equipment and uniforms for employees. Schools are responsible for the funds and for ordering supplies and materials needed. Orders for supplies and materials are submitted on a REQUEST FOR CUSTODIAL SUPPLIES form. A computerized inventory is maintained by the warehouse clerk to track the supplies issued against the school's allotment. School administrators are given a monthly report to inform them of the status of their allotment.
