What
can you do as a parent to ensure that the education your child receives is the
best your tax dollars can buy? How can
you maximize your investment in public education? How can you personally assist teachers and
the local school board in the goal of providing quality education for our
children?
The
Overwhelming Answer is to Get Involved!
In the Home…
The few hours a day that your child
spends in school can hardly compare with the strength of impressions and
influences he or she receives in the home.
1.
One of the simplest and most pleasant ways to
prepare your child for success in school is to read together.
2.
Set aside a few hours each week when the TV is
turned off and the whole family sits down together to share the pleasure of
reading and discussion.
3.
Ensure that your child reads for 20 minutes each
night.
On a Visit to the School…
All schools have some sort of parents’ day, but too often
parents come to school with no idea of exactly what they’re there for. They look at the pretty paintings on the
wall, are shown the new equipment, and are often in an all-too-short conference
with the child’s teacher.
1.
Look around when you visit the school; ask
questions; be prepared to discuss your child’s education.
2.
Ask your child’s teacher about specific things you
can do at home to help your child.
3.
Volunteer a few hours of your time. Teacher need help and welcome it.
Our children deserve the best. We must not shortchange them. Gain a voice in the education of our children
and the administration of our tax dollars by educating yourself on the issues
and voting wisely when education bills are on the ballot.
Join and become an active part in the P.T.A.
Membership dues are $5.00
per person and cover every child you have at this school.

The

involvement. Together with parents,
teachers and staff we can make
We
are looking forward to raising money for our school through various fundraising
events. We will share some of our ideas
with you at the PTA meetings. Some
ongoing fundraisers that are easy for every parent to take part in are: saving Campbell Soup labels and Box Tops For Education, along with using your Harris Teeter VIC
card. You must re-register every fall by
telling them your school number when
you use you VIC card. Our number is 1499.
There
will be much more information on activities for you to be a part of. If you are
interested in serving on a committee please call Beth Dunbar at 276-2430.
