The Scotland High School of Business, Finance and Marketing offers a variety of business related courses preparing graduates for positions in accounting, computer technologies, business management, marketing and office support occupations. Technical training is integrated into all business curriculum along with essential workplace skills, such as communication, critical thinking, problem solving, team building adn decision making.

Many programs include opportunities for practical work experiences through job shadowing, internships, cooperative learning experiences and post-secondary education.

The Scotland High School of Health Sciences is a comprehensive and intensive pre-professional and pre-technical secondary program of study. The school is designed to enable students to enter post-secondary programs covering the entire range of health care professional opportunities. It is a preparatory program characterized by academic rigor, intensive career planning and advising and required clinical and/or mentoring experiences. The School of Health Sciences’ mission is assisted by the support and involvement of health care professionals  throughout Scotland County.

The Scotland High School of Leadership and Public Service is a preparatory program for students whose interests in post-secondary studies will be in those areas where helping and protecting others is a priority. This focus includes, but is not limited to, the practice of law, government service, military service, education, culinary arts, the hospitality industry, social work and a variety of liberal arts fields. On– and off-site work experiences and college-level courses coupled with a full range of core academic courses prepare LPS graduates to be college ready and successful leaders of the 21st Century. These courses will be characterized by their academic rigor and their relevance to students’ objectives, goals and interests.

In the School of Leadership and Public Service, each and every student is afforded the opportunity to participate in a variety of service and leadership activities. Our teachers adhere to the philosophy that “we can lead by serving” and instill this value in our students.

Principal - Mr. Mark Duckworth

The educational program of the Scotland High School of Math, Science and Technology encourages students to learn through independent thought and collaboration with teachers, students, businesses and the community at large.

Students learn in an innovative and professional environment along with traditional pedagogy. Both students and staff understand the commitment necessary to implement a rigorous and relevant curriculum—a curriculum in which technology standards and skill development are embedded with traditions skills, values and knowledge. Students focus adapting their individual learning styles in an environment that requires the use of the newest technology available, including Lotus Notes and various Microsoft Office programs. In addition, students will explore ethical issues involving technology using Socratic seminars, as well as learn valuable life skills such as how to manage their time efficiently, how to set and achieve goals and how to integrate themselves successfully within a team as they begin their quest to complete problem-based learning assignments.

Visual and Performing Arts Logo

 

 

Principal - Mr. Rodney Hassler

The Scotland High School of Visual and Performing Arts includes four areas of interest for students: Music, Art, Theatre and Media.

The music program includes instrumental and vocal music instruction. Along with the award winning and nationally recognized Fighting Scots Marching Band, the instrumental music program is a comprehensive program with numerous performing opportunities.  The vocal music program consists of Chorus I and II, Concert Choir and the Scotland Singers. In addition to seasonal concerts, the chorus groups performs at various community events.

The visual arts program is designed to teach the beginning, as well as the experienced artist. Courses range from basic to advanced with opportunities for students to specialize in painting, sculpting, crafts and pottery with required exhibitions.

The theatre program is designed for both the performer and the technician. Theatre prepares students by teaching self-discipline, responsibility, problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.

The media program focuses on video and print journalism.  The video program encourages students to become adept in creating, editing and displaying information through the use of digital video recorders and computers to create a video record of events at SHS. The print media program focuses on the production or the school newspaper, the yearbook, the literary magazine and other printed items useful to SHS and its programs.

Principal - Mrs. Johnnerlyn Johnson

Upon   entering  Scotland High School  from  the middle school, all students are assigned to one of four ninth grade academies. Within these academies are teams of core teachers with whom the students complete the academic requirements to become sophomores. In their academy, the students are allowed to take specific electives that help them select the small learning community they will enter as a sophomore.

Students    in   the  ninth     grade   academies  are  afforded  a  number of opportunities not available in most comprehensive high schools. They are served by two guidance counselors to help with their academic decisions and ease the transition to high school, two administrators, an attendance liaison to help prevent attendance-related dropouts, a social worker, a student support liaison and a Dean of Students.
