Message from the Principal

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Scotland High School of Engineering and Skilled Trades. In 2006 our school was chosen as one of the 75 most promising high schools in the nation by the International Center for Leadership in Education. In the same year, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the Council of Chief State School Officers selected us as one of the state's 10 most promising high schools. This educational renaissance brought visitors to our campus from around the state and the nation that included WUNC TV, WUNC Radio, North Carolina's Educational Oversight Committee, Federal Court Judge Howard Manning, The Center for International Understanding, distinguished educational leaders from around the state and Newsweek magazine, respectively. Together, we will continue to build an educational environment that is second to none.

Our faculty and staff are committed to redesigning secondary education that is more relevant to our student's future. Rigorous courses that foster critical thinking, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of real world problems will allow students to understand the relevance of what they are learning and how to transform abstract concepts into course knowledge.

The future is being shaped by global mega-trends that continue to impact our local community. To remain competitive, we must continue to offer educational opportunities that transcend local and state expectations, and prepare learners to compete at an international level. To support this effort, our staff will continue to expand our partnerships with local, state, and international organizations in order to provide our learners with real-world, career-based opportunities.

We are delighted that you have chosen to become a member of our family of learners.

David S. Kincaid, Ph.D.

Principal
