Construction

Tech Is must learn about the basics of construction, as well as safety rules. Sometimes the students work off campus, especially the Tech II's. Students have built decks, painted houses, worked on roofs and occasionally help with Habitat for Humanity.
Fundamentals of Technology
Every semester, students work on balsa wood bridges and learn about engineering designs. This year, there will be a new project students will work on that allows them to build concrete boats. Students must study buoyancy in order to create a boat made of concrete that is able to float.
"The Humpty Dumpty Project: Can You Save Him?" (a project performed by Fundamentals of Technology students each semester)
Working in teams, students design a cockpit to protect "Humpty Dumpty (an egg) ", when he is ejected from the space shuttle. Humpty is not allowed to be changed in anyway, such as by taping him. Teams are given a budget of $40 for building materials and a price list. Next, teams must make a PowerPoint or written presentation describing their design for the project detailing how the project design works. Students must use their knowledge of motion, engineering proctices and procedures, and gravity to complete the task successfully. Some of the materials used for the project are popsicle sticks, rubber bands, tooth picks, cotton balls, paper clips, wood and wire.

Masonry
Students in Brick Masonry are currently working on many different projects. Some are building retaining walls, others are building 20 inch by 24 inch columns. Other projects are rack back corners, rack back leads, and "L" shaped corners.
Drafting

Level ones in drafting work on mechanical drawings dealing with geometric construction. Level twos in drafting are working to complete kitchen designs and learn more about the surface area of residential homes. Upon completion of service design, students move into the construction aspect of design and build frames of buildings such as the one in the above picture. Level three drafting students have already completed their preliminary models for this semester
as you see above on the left. Students designed a 35,000 square foot residential home last semester and will construct a final model that will include interior walls, exterior walls, roof construction, and landscaping. Students will also present these models in a professional setting at the end of the semester.
