Welcome to my website. I am a Health Science teacher at Scotland High School in Laurinburg, NC. I have been teaching for six years and utilized the experience I gained as a registered nurse for eighteen years. While a registered nurse, I spent a large amount of time in outpatient surgery and the med-surg floor. From my experience I have shared many examples of patient care and hospital procedures with my students. The format of my courses allows me to work in the classroom with my students for twelve weeks. After learning basic healthcare skills in the classroom, the students are assigned a clinical rotation for six weeks in various health related fields including the local hospital, doctors’ offices, dental offices, EMS, veterinary offices and nursing homes. Outside of my job, I am a housewife with two teenage children. My daughter has just finished her junior year at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, SC. She is majoring in English education. My son, who just completed his junior year at Richmond Senior High School, is actively involved in baseball at school and for the local Legion organization. Other than my children, my hobbies include church activities, reading, exercising and spending time with my husband. I am enrolled in the Masters of Education in Health Education at East Carolina University in order to further my education and help me excel in teaching. I achieved National Board Certification in 2006 and the process inspired me to start graduate school. |
