The Scotland High School Winter Guard is an extra-curricular extension of the band program.
The ensemble consists of students who were involved in the Marching Band Color Guard during the
fall semester. The Winter Guard is a competitive ensemble that competes in both a local circuit
(Atlantic Indoor Association) and a national circuit (Winter Guard International). Participants
are split into two squads-Junior Varsity and Varsity. The Junior Varsity Guard includes 7th-9th grade
students and competes only in the local circuit. Recently, the Junior Varsity Guard received the gold
medal in their class at the 2006 Atlantic Indoor Association Guard Championships. The Varsity Guard
includes 9th-12th grade students and competes in both local and national circuits. In recent years,
the Varsity Winter Guard has gained notoriety by achieving the highest level of success at competitions.
Most recently and most notably, the ensemble was named the 2006 Winter Guard International
Scholastic A Class Silver Medalists.
After a very successful season and an elegant medal winning performance in Scholastic A Class at the WGI
World Championships in Dayton, OH in April, the Scotland High School Varsity Winter Guard has been officially
promoted to the next class--Scholastic Open--by the WGI Promotion Board. We are very proud of this year's
squad and look forward to another successful season next year! Congratulations to the 2006 Winter Guard!
