Technology in Education Training

Technology Training will be provided on a monthly basis beginning in September 2008.
Monthly sessions will be held at A.B. Gibson Center on Saturday mornings from 8:00 to 12:00.

Participants can earn from 0.4  to 1 credit hours, depending on the course and follow-up work. Click on the "Register" link following the description of each course to sign up.


Call for technology trainers! If you have used technology in your classroom to impact student learning and would like to become one of the Saturday morning instructors, please email TIE@scsnc.org with your proposal.

In this session, teachers will use a variety of technology skills to create digital media in the form of a "flip book". It is helpful, but not required for participants to have some experience/knowledge of PowerPoint, MS Word, and/or MS paint.   Register

October 18, 2008                   Technology in the Middle School Science Curriculum
Teachers will investigate ways to integrate technology into the middle school curriculum. Activities will be developed for each grade level using the NC Standard Course of Study. Teachers will be asked to submit a final product after implemenatation in the classroom to receive additional technology credits. Units developed through the NCDPI will be utilized as a resource.   Register

October 18, 2008                  The World of GOOGLE
Teachers will explore the many uses of Google applications in the classroom with an emphasis on 21st Century learning!   Register

November 15, 2008          Science, Social Studies, and the pursuit of technology!
Target group:  Elementary Teachers
Teachers will learn ways to integrate technology into their 3-5 Science and Social Studies curriculum.  Register

November 15, 2008             SmartBoard Activities in the Elementary Schools
The teachers will use the lesson activities toolkit to create curriculum related interactive activites to use in their classroom.  They should bring pacing guide, textbook or other materials that would provide them with the information that can help them create these activities.  Register

November 15, 2008             Project Based Learning for All Content Area
Target group: Middle and High School teachers
Do you wonder how to create a student-centered, real-world project environment that better prepares all students for the End-of-Course or End-of-Grade Test?  Do you want to engage students in rigorous projects while enhancing 21st century skills?  If you answered yes to either question, this session is for you!  Teachers will learn how to use Projects as an instructional tool.  In addition, teachers will create at least one engaging project to use in their classroom. Register

January 10, 2009                  Teaching and Learning with Digital Video
Participants will explore video as an instructional tool and will discuss appropriate use in the classroom. They will record videos, edit their videos and add sound using Audacity. Extra CEU credit will be earned if lesson used in classroom and/or video is uploaded to Teacher Tube.  Register
